IAF 2023 Multilateral Recognition Agreements Report

Accreditation is a vital component of ensuring the quality and conformity of products and services in a globalized economy. Evidence of this is the data recently released by the International Accreditation Forum Inc through its Annual Report on Multilateral Recognition Agreements (MLA) for the year 2023, which highlights the importance of promoting and mutual acceptance of certificates of conformity around the world, minimizing technical barriers to trade.

The number of signatories to the IAF hashtag#MLA continues to grow, providing confidence to businesses and regulators in a growing number of economies. Today there are more than 13,600 accredited conformity assessment bodies in more than 101 countries around the world. In 2023, 10 new private sector schemes were endorsed as recognized subscopes, including global food safety standards and product certification schemes. This expansion reflects the strategic vision of improving global quality and eliminating technical barriers to trade.

The report also highlights several improvement activities conducted by the IAF, including reviews of policies and procedures and the introduction of training packages for assessors, aimed at further strengthening the effectiveness of the MLA.
