Important updates to IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards for electrical safety of household appliances
The new versions of the international standards are soon to be published:
- IEC 60335-2-3:2025 (7th Edition) – Particular requirements for irons and steam ironing systems
- IEC 60335-2-5:2025 (7th Edition) – Particular requirements for domestic electric dishwashers
These standards are part of the IEC 60335 series, the global reference for electrical safety of household and similar appliances, and define mandatory technical criteria for the certification and commercialization of these products in multiple countries.
Both editions are currently in the Pre-release Version (PRV) phase, which means early acquisition guarantees automatic access to the final version upon publication.
These updates represent an important step for manufacturers, certification bodies, and regulators, especially in aligning with requirements for protection against electric shocks, operational stability, and component safety under abnormal conditions.
Stay alert: the revision of these standards directly impacts type testing, conformity verification routines, and national and international regulatory programs!
