Anatel and IDB advance regulatory solutions for sustainability in the telecommunications sector
Anatel and the Inter-American Development Bank IDB are advancing the implementation of a project that seeks to promote sustainable practices in the telecommunications sector, focusing on the management of network equipment waste and the development of regulatory instruments that encourage circularity and the reduction of environmental impact.
The initiative foresees the analysis of comparative regulations and the development of a roadmap with technical and regulatory guidelines that enable the creation of an efficient reverse logistics and equipment reuse system. Among the technical topics under discussion are the definition of minimum requirements for remanufacturing and reusing equipment, as well as mechanisms for traceability, quality control and certification of refurbished devices.
Another highlight is the development of financing models and regulatory incentives, such as tariff mechanisms and sectoral obligations, to support the practical implementation of the actions. The joint action by Anatel and the IDB also foresees the development of environmental monitoring indicators and metrics specific to the telecommunications sector, allowing regulation to evolve based on robust evidence and data.
The importance of initiatives such as this, which seek to align technical regulations with sustainability in sectors of high technological complexity, certification and conformity assessment play a central role in ensuring that reused or refurbished equipment maintains performance and safety standards equivalent to new products, protecting the integrity of networks and consumer rights.
