Public Consultation Inmetro No. 23/2025: Important changes to the regulation for commercial electric ovens

The National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) has published Public Consultation No. 23, dated August 19, 2025, proposing amendments to Inmetro Ordinance No. 267/2021, which establishes the Technical Quality Regulation (RTQ) and the Conformity Assessment Requirements (RAC) for commercial electric ovens.

Among the most relevant changes:

Expansion and clarification of the regulation’s scope, including:

– Ovens with or without forced-air convection;

– Gas-fired commercial ovens with essential electrical components;

– Technical limits: up to 20 kW of power and up to 480 V voltage.

Update of international technical standards used as reference for electrical safety testing, such as:

– IEC 60335-1:2016

– IEC 60335-2-36, -2-42, and -2-102 (updated editions)

Introduction of clear transitional provisions, defining adaptation deadlines for manufacturers, importers, and retailers — highlighting the use of the new National Energy Conservation Label (ENCE) in accordance with regulatory specifications.

Detailed requirements for mandatory electrical safety tests, covering construction, heating, leakage current, moisture resistance, and other normative criteria.

The deadline for submitting contributions is 60 days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette (August 25, 2025), via the Participa + Brasil platform.
