Anatel Approves New Rules for Certification of Telecommunications Products
The Board of Directors of Anatel — the National Telecommunications Agency — approved the update of the Regulation for Certification and Approval of Telecommunications Products, aiming to modernize conformity assessment processes and ensure that devices marketed in the country meet technical requirements for safety, quality, and performance.
Among the main points of the revision is the inclusion of specific rules for refurbished and reconditioned products, establishing clear criteria for the certification of such equipment to ensure that these products offer the same technical conditions required of new products.
The new rules also directly impact marketplaces and digital e-commerce platforms, which will have greater responsibility for verifying the conformity of the products offered, curbing the sale of non-certified devices and enhancing traceability in the online environment.
The regulation further provides, for the first time, guidelines for conformity assessment of data centers and sets a deadline of 240 days for the publication of a detailed operational procedure, counted from the official publication. This allows interested parties to ensure their data centers comply with the new rules, including those already operational, which will have a 36-month period to adapt.
The update of the rules is relevant both for consumers, who will have access to products with greater guarantees of safety and quality, and for the industry, which will benefit from clearer processes aligned with international practices, strengthening competitiveness and compliance in the Brazilian market.
