New Inmetro energy efficiency label for refrigerators comes into effect

As of January 1, 2026, the new National Energy Conservation Label (ENCE) issued by Inmetro – the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology – comes into force for refrigerators and similar appliances marketed in Brazil. The update aims to improve communication with consumers regarding the energy performance of products, reflecting technological advances and encouraging the choice of more efficient models.

The new label adopts stricter classification criteria, reorganizing the energy efficiency ranges. The main change is the elimination of the A+, A++ and A+++ subclasses, now displaying only three efficiency classes for refrigerators: A, B and C. As a result, more energy-efficient appliances will be clearly differentiated, allowing consumers to identify products with lower electricity consumption.

Among the main expected effects of the update are greater clarity when comparing models available on the market, reduced household energy consumption, and, consequently, lower electricity costs over the product’s lifetime.

The measure is part of Brazil’s energy efficiency policy and reinforces the role of labeling as a tool to support purchasing decisions based on verified technical information.
