Kitchen safety: reducing risks in the use of pressure cookers

Inmetro has issued consumer guidance on the proper use of pressure cookers, focusing on the prevention of household accidents and the safe use of the product. The initiative is part of the Institute’s educational actions aimed at improving the safety of products widely used in everyday life.

The guidance highlights the importance of following the manufacturer’s instructions, periodically checking the condition of the safety valve, sealing ring, and lid, and respecting the capacity and pressure limits specified for each model.

The certification process for pressure cookers in Brazil is established by Inmetro Ordinance No. 499, of December 20, 2021, which defines the technical safety requirements applicable to the product. The commercialization of pressure cookers is only permitted upon certification, ensuring compliance with current standards, reducing user risks, and strengthening consumer protection.
