International recognition through accreditation facilitates global trade
The International Accreditation Forum Inc. (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) have highlighted, in a joint publication, the strategic role of accreditation in facilitating international trade. The initiative reinforces how the Multilateral Recognition Arrangements (IAF MLA and ILAC MRA) contribute to the mutual acceptance of certificates, test reports, and calibration results among economies.
The coordinated action of the signatory bodies to these agreements enables products and services certified by accredited entities in one country to be recognized in other markets, reducing costs, eliminating technical barriers, and promoting interoperability across global supply chains.
These mechanisms are essential for the smooth flow of trade in both regulated and voluntary sectors, contributing to greater predictability, confidence, and efficiency in international exchanges.
