Inmetro approves model and requirements for Industry 4.0 maturity classification
Inmetro has approved the Model for Industry 4.0 Maturity Classification and the Conformity Assessment Requirements applicable to this classification through Ordinance No. 171, dated March 16, 2026. The publication states that the measure establishes the framework and criteria for productive organizations that wish to classify their level of maturity regarding the use of Industry technologies.
According to the text, the classification is voluntary and must be carried out through the certification mechanism, either by Inmetro itself or by a Product Certification Body established in Brazil and accredited by the Institute. The scope applies to productive organizations of any size or sector interested in assessing their stage of maturity in this area.
The ordinance also clarifies that it is not within Inmetro’s responsibility to exercise administrative enforcement power over the object, and that the Institute’s role is to supervise the use of the mark, focusing on compliance with conformity assessment rules. According to the publication, the regulation came into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Union.
