IAF Publishes Update to MD 4 on Remote Audits
The International Accreditation Forum Inc. (IAF) has published the third edition of IAF MD 4, which provides updates on the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to conduct remote audits. This document provides guidelines for the safe and effective application of these tools, ensuring that the various audit and certification processes continue to be conducted with integrity and reliability.
The new version reinforces the criteria for the use of remote audits in QMS management systems, production processes and services, establishing requirements that ensure that conformity assessment is carried out in a robust manner and in line with international standards. Among the aspects addressed are the need for adequate planning, risk management, information security criteria and validation of the effectiveness of audits conducted remotely.
The use of remote audits has expanded globally, bringing benefits such as greater operational efficiency, reduced logistics costs and expanded access to certification for companies in different locations. With this update, the IAF seeks to ensure that the adoption of these methodologies continues to be done with credibility, strengthening confidence in accredited certification processes.
