Cybersecurity in the era of connectivity

Cybersecurity in the Era of Connectivity: Article by PCN Specialists Featured on the IAF Website

The increasing connectivity of devices and the proliferation of the Internet of Things (#IoT) demand heightened attention to the cybersecurity of products that are part of our daily lives. In a recent article published by the International Accreditation Forum Inc (#IAF), specialists Kim Rieffel and Charles Smiderle — professionals from PCN Latin America — with support from Carlos Rupp Bindé, explore the crucial role of accredited conformity assessment in mitigating risks associated with security and privacy failures in connected devices.

The article highlights the importance of structured certification mechanisms, guided by international standards and applied by accredited bodies, to ensure that products such as smart home appliances, medical devices, routers, and industrial sensors meet robust cybersecurity criteria. The proposed model is based on regulatory and voluntary initiatives already in operation in international markets, pointing to pathways for integrated action among manufacturers, regulators, and conformity assessment bodies.

The article also addresses challenges and opportunities for implementing schemes adaptable to different risk levels, emphasizing how the quality infrastructure can be mobilized to protect consumers, companies, and digital ecosystems. By promoting a preventive and evidence-based approach, the authors argue that certification can be a strategic ally for the sustainable development of the digital society.

The publication is available on the official IAF website and reinforces PCN’s technical leadership on critical issues for contemporary conformity assessment. Read the full article:
