Anatel stepped up its inspections during Black Friday this year, using AI tools to identify irregularities in products sold on major marketplaces, such as Amazon and Mercado Livre.
The action resulted in the seizure of more than 22,000 unapproved products, reinforcing the market surveillance process to protect consumers and ensure the safety of equipment sold in the Brazilian market.
Among the items seized were devices such as chargers, headphones, and telecommunications equipment that did not have the certification required by Anatel. Unapproved products can pose risks to user safety, such as electrical failures and exposure to radiation outside of permitted standards. In addition, these irregularities harm the formal market and compromise the competitiveness of companies that comply with technical standards and regulatory requirements.
The use of AI in inspections marks an advance in Anatel's market surveillance capacity, enabling faster and more effective actions to identify irregular products and protect consumers. This initiative also reinforces the importance of technical certification and product approval procedures as a safeguard for quality and safety.
For consumers, the warning is clear: before purchasing a product, especially during periods of major promotions such as Black Friday and Christmas, always check whether it has the necessary approval or certification.
