Accredited Certification as a Tool for Sustainable Waste Management
In the face of growing environmental challenges and the need for efficient solutions in solid waste management, conformity assessment mechanisms emerge as strategic tools to drive more sustainable practices, especially in large-scale commercial and industrial environments.
In a publication on the Business Benefits portal, maintained by the International Network on Quality Infrastructure (INET QI), PCN Latin America presented the voluntary certification model accredited by the General Accreditation Coordination of Inmetro (CGCRE) — Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology — for on-site solid waste management systems. This approach emphasizes traceability, control, and environmentally sound waste disposal, promoting a direct positive impact on organizations’ environmental footprint.
By integrating technical, environmental, and document traceability criteria, the certification stands out as a competitive and environmental governance advantage, enabling companies to:
- Reduce emissions and logistical costs associated with transportation and disposal
- Demonstrate compliance with ESG goals and sectoral agreements
- Add value to institutional image and sustainable reputation
- Promote more responsible supply chains
The voluntary approach enables greater adaptability and innovation, encouraging the market to go beyond legal requirements and effectively contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
