How Anatel is helping the southern region of Brazil to reestablish telecommunications services

With the recent floods that affected the southern region of the country, telecommunications services were seriously affected. These include cell phones, radio and television transmission, as well as traffic control services, essential for humanitarian support logistics.

The National Telecommunications Agency - ANATEL, aware of the imminent need, seeks measures to mitigate damage to civil society by acting on different work fronts, including:

  • The anticipation of connectivity in public schools in response to the calamity in Rio Grande do Sul, which seeks to guarantee access to educational and technology activities for the most affected communities;
  • Anatel launches a public panel with information about the status of mobile phone networks in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, which presents data regarding the absence of affectation, partial or total affectation in each municipality in the aforementioned regions.
  • Families registered in social programs will be able to receive new digital satellite dishes in case of loss due to rain, which intends to make the kits available in 497 municipalities in the State of Rio Grandense, in homes affected by the rains, considering that thousands of families may have lost the equipment in floods.

For more information, PCN also makes its communication channels available for questions.
