Brazilian Labeling Program

Changes to the energy efficiency label for domestic refrigerators

Responsible for packaging and preserving food, refrigerators can contribute to a significant portion of a home's passive electrical energy consumption, when compared to other household appliances. Not surprisingly, they are part of the Brazilian Labeling Program, the PBE, which aims to communicate to the consumer about aspects of product performance, based on the energy efficiency label.

Determined by Inmetro, adjustments are planned in aspects of classification and in the criteria for framing the product's consumption ranges. The changes must occur in two stages: the first in 2026 and, subsequently, in 2030, with the aim of bringing Brazilian criteria closer to the significantly more restrictive European standard. Currently, a refrigerator certified in Brazil with maximum efficiency rating is in a lower range than a product with European certification at its lowest rating.

PCN specializes in the management of energy efficiency projects and, in addition to Refrigerators, works in the technical approval process for Air Conditioners, Washing Machines and other various items regulated by the PBE.
